Watch what you breathe

Coal plants are a major source of airborne toxins, including mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and lead. Mercury is considered a neurotoxin that is particularly harmful to young children and fetuses. OPG's coal plants are the largest source of mercury emissions in the province and are the only industrial source for which emissions have actually increased over the past 15 years. More than 90% of the health safety advisories for fish eating in Ontario are due to mercury contamination and much of this mercury is coming from burning coal.
