*Revised* Fact Sheet #27 - Lower cost and cleaner answers: Meeting Northern York Region's Electricity Needs
An examination of Northern York Region’s demand for electricity during each hour of 2007 reveals a number of important facts. First, in the summer, the demand for electricity spikes on six to 12 very hot days when air-conditioners are running full out. Second, on these days the peak hourly demand for electricity is up to 75% higher than NYR’s average annual hourly demand (i.e., 200 megawatts [MW]). Third, these summer needle peaks last for only a few hours at a time.
