Want to see coal knocked down before 2014? Come out to Yonge / Dundas Square today for our Peak Buster‘s event and help push the coal phase out into top gear. By cutting demand for electricity on hot summer days, we can dramatically reduce the need for dirty coal-fired electricity — and end the long wait for a real coal phase out.
We’ll have our giant smokestack in the square for those who would like to take a whack at Ontario’s dirtiest — and most carbon intensive — energy source. There will also be great information available from a number of groups and companies about how you can be a Peak Buster by reducing your electricity demand. You can also take the Peak Buster‘s quiz and win a great energy superhero t-shirt or take home one of our great climate change buttons. Councillor Paula Fletcher will kick things off around noon by giving the stack its first knock-out blow. Activities will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Come on down to the corner of Yonge and Dundas Streets in Toronto and have some fun while doing your part to fight climate change and smog.
If you can’t make the event, you can still be a Peak Buster — check out www.PeakBusters.ca
