Go Clean and Green — and win big!

Summer (almost) and smog season (definitely) are here. But now there is something you can do to help clear our air and save energy, while also earning a chance to win great prizes.

The Ontario Clean Air Alliance’s Go Clean and Green online contest has started. This is your chance to win one of 12 great energy-saving appliances (courtesy of Toronto Hydro, Enbridge Gas Distribution and Union Gas), a fantastic fully installed solar hot water heater (courtesy of EnerWorks), green power (courtesy of Bullfrog Power), and nine iPod Nanos.

Here’s how it works: Go to www.gocleanandgreen.org and follow the instructions to register for the contest. Then take a look at the list of energy saving and clean energy actions that you can take to earn points — while reducing the need for dirty coal-fired electricity. Each point you earn gives you one entry in our monthly and grand prize draws – so the more you do, the better your chances of winning.

To get you off to a fast start, any actions you’ve taken to reduce energy or to switch to cleaner energy sources since Jan. 1, 2006 that match the actions listed on the contest website will qualify for points. So if you’ve already signed up for Toronto Hydro’s PeakSAVER program, you’ve earned 15 points, and if you’ve already switched to Bullfrog Power or another green power supplier for your home’s electricity, you’ve earned 25 points.

If you haven’t taken actions like these, the time to act is now – the deadline for our first of three monthly prize draws is June 30, 2006. This draw will include two $100 blocks of green power from Bullfrog and three iPod Nanos.

Of course, it doesn’t end there. You will have until Oct. 15, 2006 to earn points for the grand prize draw which includes a double-panel EnerWorks solar hot water system (installation by Sun Capture); $1,000 worth of green power from Bullfrog Power; two Energy Star front-load washers, an Energy Star refrigerator and an Energy Star dishwasher all courtesy of Toronto Hydro; and two gas ranges, gas dryers, gas grills and gas water heaters courtesy of Union Gas and Enbridge Gas Distribution. Visit www.gocleanandgreen.org/prizes.php for more details on prizes.

We’ll all win with cleaner air – go to www.gocleanandgreen.org to enter now.

Hot tip: Trade in your wheezing old window air conditioner this weekend and earn 25 points in our Go Clean and Green contest . The Clean Air Foundation’s Keep Cool program will take your old unit and give you a $25 Home Depot or Home Hardware gift card. Check www.keepcool.ca for details.)

Thanks to our great contest sponsors: Bullfrog Power, EnerWorks,???? Laidlaw Foundation, Union Gas, Enbridge Gas Distribution, Toronto Hydro, Toronto Atmospheric Fund, Clean Air Foundation

Contest commences June 5, 2006 and closes Oct. 15, 2006 at 11:59 p.m. All winners must answer a skill testing question and be a resident of Ontario over the age of 18. Total value of prizes is approximately$22,000. Odds of winning depend on number of entries and points accumulated by participants by draw dates. Go to www.gocleanandgreen.org for complete rules.
