Switching to compact fluorescent lights, installing EnergyStar-rated ceiling fans and appliances, using green power, switching to gas for hot water and clothes drying and planting a tree – all examples of energy winning actions taken by the five winners of our first Go Clean and Green contest monthly prize draw.
Melanie Kennett of Guelph and Rachel Draper of Barrie can now listen to a little music on their new iPod nanos while working on new energy-saving projects around their homes. Jennifer Penney of Toronto, meanwhile, will be lighting things up with $100 worth of EcoChoice certified green power from Bullfrog Power. (We have two additional winners still to be contacted.)
Our five winners managed to accumulate 427 points in total by taking a wide range of actions to reduce their energy use. (Remember, any energy saving action you have taken since Jan. 1, 2006 that matches the contest actions earns you points).
Want a fast way to earn some points? Spread the word about this great online contest! You will earn three points for each electronic postcard you send and five more points for every person you send it to who follows the link in the postcard to take part in the contest. If you’re not already taking part in the Go Clean and Green contest, now is the time to get going at www.gocleanandgreen.org. The deadline for earning points for the next monthly prize draw is July 31, 2006 when we will have three more iPod nanos and another $100 worth of green power up for grabs. In October, we will be drawing the grand prize winners of our 12 great energy saving appliances, solar domestic hot water system and $1,000 worth of green power.
