Tabuns says no to coal and nuclear; Chin prefers non-nuclear options

Toronto-Danforth NDP candidate Peter Tabuns supports the phase-out of Ontario’s coal plants by 2009 and is opposed to the construction of new nuclear reactors in Ontario, according to the results of a survey released by the Ontario Clean Air Alliance (OCAA) today.

Liberal candidate Ben Chin also supports a complete coal phase-out by 2009.  In response to the OCAA’s question: “Are you opposed to the construction of new nuclear reactors in Ontario?” Mr. Chin replied: “If there’s a way to meet Ontario’s supply needs without using nuclear power, I will support it.”

Green candidate Paul Charbonneau supports the 2009 coal phase-out date and is “completely opposed to new nuclear reactors in Ontario.”

The PC Party candidate, Georgina Blanas, did not respond to the OCAA survey.

The OCAA also surveyed the Liberal, PC, NDP and Green candidates in the Nepean-Carleton and Whitby-Ajax by-elections.  Click here for the candidates full responses.
