Winning with clean and green
Last summer, we challenged you to help Ontario kick the coal habit by reducing your electricity demand through our Go Clean and Green website contest. Two thousand participants took part in the contest and reported taking a wide range of energy-saving actions, including more than 900 who installed compact flourescent lightbulbs, more than 400 who purchased an EnergyStar appliance, almost 200 who switched to gas for clothes drying, and 40 who installed a renewable energy system.
Thanks to everyone who took part in our Go Clean and Green Contest. Your efforts have contributed to helping Ontario phase-out coal -- in 2006, Ontario's total annual electricity consumption actually fell by 4% (without all the lights going out or the economy coming to a grinding halt). You are all winners in our books, but some of you did also take home some great prizes as an added reward (see list below).
And stay tuned -- we are working on another great contest for this summer that will challenge Ontario communities to reduce their peak electricity demand and help us to reach a coal-free future faster.
