February 19, 2009 New Power Plants vs. Energy Efficiency: Sixty to One As of December 2008, for every dollar that the Ontario Power Authority has spent on energy conservation and efficiency, it has contracted to spend $60 on new supply. For more information on how Ontario is targeting its electricity system spending, please see our newly updated fact sheet, Conservation vs. New Supply: A Summary of the Ontario Power Authority’s procurement efforts on our website. Please contact Energy Minister George Smitherman at George.Smitherman@ontario.ca and remind him that energy efficiency is the lowest cost, cleanest and quickest option to keep our lights on and to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions that are contributing to the climate crisis. Please also remind him that energy efficiency investments reduce our energy bills, create jobs now and make our industries more competitive. Please pass this message on to your friends. Thank you.
