In 2006, Ontario became a net exporter of dirty coal-fired electricity to the United States.
According to a Government of Ontario report, our coal plants kill 668 people per year in this province. Yet in 2006, approximately 20% of our total coal-fired electricity production was exported to the U.S.
Ontario has already had 11 smog days in 2007. On eight of these 11 smog days, Ontario was a net exporter of coal-fired electricity.
During the 2003 provincial election campaign, Dalton McGuinty promised to ban non-emergency coal-fired electricity exports. It’s time for Premier McGuinty to keep his promise. Please contact Premier McGuinty, at firstname.lastname@example.org or use the feedback form at https://www.premier.gov.on.ca/feedback/feedback.asp and ask him to immediately ban non-emergency coal-fired electricity exports to the U.S.
