The time is now to get the coal phase out back on track. We need each and every one of you to submit your comments on the government’s draft coal phase-out regulation TODAY. The deadline for public comment is just over a week away on August 11. It’s critical that we counter the submissions that oppose getting rid of coal even by the 2014 deadline proposed by the government.

As it stands, the government’s proposed regulation falls well short of meeting their promise to phase out coal “as soon as practically possible.” With no interim targets for reducing coal use, the regulation will not help Ontario meet its Kyoto protocol greenhouse gas emission reduction targets in the 2008-2012 period. Even the Government’s own planning agency acknowledges that we could be virtually coal-free by 2010.

Please immediately visit and tell the government that:
–You strongly support a legally binding coal phase-out deadline; and
–You want to see interim annual reductions in coal use before 2014.
