According to the Ford government’s own lawyers, its climate plan shouldn’t be taken seriously. Characterizing the plan as nothing more than a “glossy brochure”, the lawyers recently told an Ontario court that there was nothing enforceable about the statements in the plan. It’s just nice to look at.

I’m sure you find this a little alarming. I sure do. A government that dismisses its own climate plan as empty fluff is not one that can be trusted to act on the greatest crisis of our era. That’s why we need the federal government to step in and make it clear to the province that increasing greenhouse gas emissions from its electricity sector by more than 600% cannot be allowed to happen.

Our new pamphlet calls on federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault to put in place a strong Clean Electricity Standard that will phase-out gas power in Ontario by 2030.

By creating a Clean Electricity Standard that will move Ontario to a zero-carbon electricity grid by 2030, the federal government can demonstrate what real climate action looks like.  Maybe then, the Ford government will get serious about positioning the province for success in a low-carbon era instead of making empty promises in glossy brochures.

We need your help to spread the word about this important climate action, especially now that the Ford government has made it clear it is only prepared to pay lip service to acting on increasingly deadly climate change.
