It should be the law
It will be illegal to build a large, inefficient gas peaking generating station in Northern York Region and Bradford-West Gwillilmbury if MPP Peter Tabuns gets his way. Mr. Tabuns’ private members bill, Bill 79: The Northern York Region Power Conservation Act, will go to second reading in the Ontario Legislature this Thursday. The bill will also require the Ontario Power Authority to make every reasonable effort to meet the Region’s electricity needs by a combination of energy conservation and efficiency, renewable energy and small-scale, high-efficiency combined heat and power plants.
It’s a sensible approach and one that should be the law in Ontario. Please contact your MPP and ask him/her to support Bill 79. You can find contact information for your MPP right here and if you really want to know where the parties stand on this issue, you can also come down to the Legislature at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 25th to observe the debate and the vote.
