McMaster University is planning to install four fossil gas-fired power turbines on campus – during a climate era – when we have lower cost, cleaner options to meet our peak electricity demand needs.

It is appalling that a leading post-secondary institution can’t think of any better way to meet our energy needs than to burn polluting gas. As one of Canada’s leading post-secondary institutions, this decision reflects a failure of leadership and betrays a huge lack of understanding of the depths of the current climate crisis.

Please tell McMaster’s President and Board of Governors that they need to drop their plan to ramp up the use of polluting gas, and instead show leadership in developing new zero emission approaches to meeting our energy needs.
