NDP wants to phase-out coal now!
Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath promised today that an NDP Government will put Ontario’s dirty coal-fired power plants on standby reserve and only operate them if they are absolutely needed to keep the lights on. This is an excellent proposal which would lead to a virtually complete coal phase-out now – three years ahead of the current schedule.
We no longer need dirty coal-fired power plants to keep our lights on. In fact, our coal-free electricity generation capacity is now 20% greater than our peak hour electricity demand this summer and 33% greater than the province’s forecast peak demand in 2014.
Please email Andrea Horwathand thank her for her strong commitment to phasing out our dirty coal plants now. Please also email Premier Dalton McGuinty and Conservative Leader Tim Hudak and urge them to follow her lead.
Let’s give our climate a break and breathe easier by putting our coal plants on standby reserve right now!
