
Polling done for the OCAA by OraclePoll Research shows a high level of concern about locating a new reactor in the GTA among area residents:
- Fifty-five percent of people polled were concerned or very concerned with the safety risks of having reactors near cities
- A strong majority of respondents said we need to take immediate action on climate and cannot wait for a new reactor to be built
- More than three-quarters of residents said knowing that the technology has never been tested would make them less likely to support the project.
- An 82% majority do not think a new nuclear reactor should be built before there is a permanent safe storage space for nuclear waste.
- Obtaining electricity from wind, solar, energy conservation and waterpower from Quebec was the preferred option to 73% of residents.
