A large majority of Ontarians want action on climate change. They understand that action to lessen our climate impact will be good for people living in this province in multiple ways: a reduction in the danger posed by extreme heat, storms and unpredictable weather like derechos; new economic opportunities in everything from green energy and efficiency to EVs; and a chance for our province to use its smarts to be a world leader in emerging green technologies.
Fortunately, our supporters have put us in a great position to keep getting this message out. You donated $39,851 during our spring fundraising campaign – unbelievable! – and an incredibly generous friend has matched that dollar for dollar for a grand total of $79,702! We are honoured by your support and can’t thank you enough.
Now let’s get to work. In the next few months, we’ll be working on several fronts:
- Holding Premier Ford’s feet to the fire on his promise to achieve a zero-carbon electricity system in Ontario by documenting how we can do this and save people money by investing in energy efficiency, Made-in-Ontario green energy and increased energy co-operation with Quebec.
- Getting the Ontario government to support cost-effective and highly efficient heat pumps for our homes and buildings by providing no down payment, zero-interest financing to free us from the rising costs of imported fossil gas.
- Continuing to make the case for why we should be installing smart bi-directional chargers for EVs so EV owners can keep their lights on for 10 days during power outages; and earn money by selling power back to the grid during high-demand periods to help us phase-out our gas plants.
- Making sure the province orders Ontario Power Generation to make the safe and sensible decision to immediately dismantle the Pickering Nuclear Station after it closes to create 16,000 jobs and permit most of the 600-acre prime waterfront site to be returned to the local community by 2035.
- Encouraging Doug Ford to lower our electricity bills by investing in low-cost renewable energy instead of a high-cost new nuclear reactor in the GTA.
Thank you again for your tremendous support. We have a lot of work to do, but you have put us a step ahead with your generous donations.
