Tell Premier Ford to support making a money-saving deal with Quebec
Quebec recently offered to supply Ontario with clean renewable energy at a cost of just 5 cents per kilowatt hour for the next 20 years. That is less than one-third of Ontario Power Generation’s projected price for power from rebuilt reactors at the Darlington Nuclear Station: 16.5 cents per kWh. And with inevitable cost overruns, it will climb even higher.
Already, the first stage of the Darlington project is vastly over budget. Of course, no nuclear project in Ontario’s history has ever been finished on time or on budget.
Meanwhile, Quebec is guaranteeing power year-round at an incredibly attractive price. By taking Quebec up on its offer, we could reduce our electricity costs by more than $12 billion over the next 20 years.
