On May 25th the Town of Oakville became the 27th municipality to pass a resolution calling on Premier Doug Ford to phase-out Ontario’s gas-fired power plants.
The 27 municipalities represent just over half of Ontario’s population.
The Oakville motion was supported by Mayor Rob Burton (pictured above) and all but one member of Town Council.
The motion was strongly opposed by Vince Brescia, CEO of the Ontario Energy Association (e.g., Enbridge, Shell and TC Energy – the owner of the TransCanada pipeline that delivers fracked gas from western Canada to Ontario).
