Building the world’s largest nuclear plant on the shores of Lake Ontario instead of low-cost wind and solar will cost Ontarians a lot financially as well as increasing climate damage.

Waiting decades for a risky new nuclear plant to come online all the while burning fossil gas makes little sense when we can quickly deploy solar and wind, including offshore wind in Lake Ontario.

Our new report finds that wind and solar power could provide the same amount of power while saving us $6.2 to $19.3 billion per year in electricity costs!

Ontario Power Generation should be directed to use its Port Hope site on the shores of Lake Ontario to develop solar and offshore wind instead of a costly new nuclear plant. And Ontario should work closely with other provinces to expand east-west power connections to make the most of renewable energy and storage resources.

Please ask Premier Ford and Energy Minister Lecce to direct OPG to get to work on solar and wind power, and not waste time on another expensive, risky, giant nuclear station. >>>
