Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is proposing to build what would be the world’s largest nuclear station at its Wesleyville site in Port Hope.
The massive project would cost approximately $230 billion and drive up electricity bills across Ontario.
That is why Protect Northumberland, a coalition of BlueDot Northumberland, Seniors for Climate Action NOW, and the Ontario Clean Air Alliance, asked municipal election candidates across Northumberland County:
Q. Do you think that building a massive nuclear station that will drive up electricity rates is a good use of the Wesleyville site?
Most Candidates Are Opposed or Undecided
We have received responses from 39 candidates:
- Only 5 candidates support OPG’s proposal
- 9 candidates oppose the proposal
