Building the world’s largest nuclear plant in Port Hope comes with huge risks. For starters, no nuclear project (including the Darlington refurbishment project) in Ontario’s history has ever been completed on time and on budget.
Meanwhile, power from new nuclear is projected to be 2-8 times more costly than power from solar and wind, which continue to fall in price.
Despite an overwhelming public response calling for full consideration of alternatives to this extremely high-risk project, the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) has relegated these concerns to an appendix in its summary report, and left it to OPG to decide if it wants to respond. That is simply not good enough.
Tell the President of the IAAC, the Environment Minister and your MP that the assessment of the Port Hope nuclear project must include a full examination of alternatives >>
