The NDP (Debbie Chapman), Liberal (Kelly Steiss) and Green(Aislinn Clancy) candidates in the Kitchener Centre provincial by-election are all opposed to Premier Ford’s plans to build new gas plants and ramp up gas-plant smog and climate pollution by 700% by 2043. PC candidate Rob Elliott did not answer our questionnaire.
The NDP, Liberal and Green candidates all recognize that to address our current climate crisis, we need a dramatically different approach to meeting our energy needs. They are calling for the province to get back to building out renewable energy instead of relying more and more on polluting and climate damaging fossil gas. They also recognize that investing in solar and wind will be far less costly than relying on expensive gas-fired peaker plants.
