Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is offering the Town of Napanee $4.8 million to approve a giant new polluting gas plant. This is public money being used to try to sway the decision of council on a project that will lead to more local air pollution and more climate damage everywhere. That this is the best idea our publicly owned utility can come up with is alarming.
We have many better and lower-cost ways to meet peak summer electricity demand, including energy efficiency, renewable energy and waterpower imports from Quebec. Paying communities to accept more pollution is not what our publicly-owned utility should be doing.
<<<< Make a difference and send a letter to your MPP and Energy Minister Smith. Please ask them to tell OPG to stop trying to sway local decision makers with public money, and to get serious about reducing its pollution and climate impacts.
