Ontario Power Generation wants to build a $2.2 billion gas-fired peaker plant in Napanee (near Kingston). This dirty, expensive plant will sit idle 97% of the hours of the year. When in operation, it will add more air pollution in Napanee and surrounding areas and further damage our climate. Moreover, it will make us more dependent on American gas imports, which already constitute more than 70% of our gas supplies for electricity generation and home heating.

There are many better ways to handle brief spikes in electricity demand on hot summer days, from solar and batteries to industrial demand shifting and water power imports from Quebec. These solutions are lower cost, don’t pollute, don’t damage our climate, and will lower our electricity bills.

Please tell the CEO of OPG that we don’t want our publicly owned utility building a costly, polluting gas-fired peaker plant in Napanee >>>
