It’s easy to feel that there is little that any individual can do about our spiralling climate crisis. But here’s one simple, effective action you can take: Help us distribute our new pamphlet about the continued ramp up in fossil gas burning in Ontario.
We know the Ford Government gets sweaty palms when we bring public attention to the fact that fossil gas has gone from supplying 4% of our electricity in 2017 to a planned 25% in 2030.
We also know that when communities have stood together to oppose new gas plants, they’ve succeeded and have protected their kids and neighbours from bad air quality health impacts.
But too many of our friends and neighbours still don’t understand that this province is headed in the wrong direction: burning more polluting gas instead of investing in low-cost, easy-to-build solar and wind. By tripling solar and wind in Ontario (our peers are doing it and its a bargain to boot) and doubling energy efficiency (another no brainer with incredibly fast paybacks), we can eliminate the need to burn fossil gas.
Drop pamphlets in the mailboxes of your neighbours, leave some at the grocery store and local coffee shop, pass them out to parents at your kids’ school, display them at that wine, er, book club meeting. Do what you can to let others know that we have better options than adding lung-damaging pollutants to our air and destabilizing our climate.
