This report examines the real cost of building new nuclear reactors at the Darlington Nuclear Station. It finds that power from new nuclear reactors will cost up to 8 times more than power from onshore wind turbines. It will cost up to almost 6 times that of power from solar farms. It will be up to 2.7 times the cost of Great Lakes offshore wind (with Investment Tax Credit at 30%).
Energy Futures Group used data from Ontario’s Independent Electricity System Operator but used realistic real-world capital costs and performance measures to develop a more accurate comparison of the cost of nuclear and renewable power options.
