Northland Power is proposing to expand its gas-fired generating station in the Niagara Region community of Thorold. This will lead to more air pollution for Niagara residents and more climate damage everywhere.

It is also completely unnecessary. According to a Royal Bank of Canada report, we can avoid the need for new gas-fired generation capacity and save $500 million per year by investing in energy efficiency and demand management.

Fortunately, Energy Minister Todd Smith has stated that municipal approval is necessary for the construction of new or expanded gas-fired generating plants. That means Thorold City Council has the power to say no to this ill-advised project.

Please send Thorold City Council a message urging them to vote against more polluting gas power in our community.

<<<< Make a difference and send a letter to Thorold City Council here before Sept. 19 when Council will discuss this matter. And attend the meeting in person if you can. <<<
