The Ford Government is introducing legislation to overturn an Ontario Energy Board decision that would have ended massive subsidies for building gas pipelines. This action serves no one but Enbridge Gas and land developers, who benefit from free pipeline construction paid for by current gas consumers.
The OEB made a sound decision based on careful study that recognized that there is no need to expand gas service to new developments when electric heat pumps are a far better choice – for homeowners and the climate.
Instead of respecting this informed decision by an arm’s length body, the government is rushing to profit Enbridge Gas and developers.
