These large parking lots could generate clean, renewable electricity to help power TTC subways, buses and stations – while also keeping cars cooler in summer and protected from snow and ice in winter.

Solar parking canopies are proven technology already being used around the world. France now requires them on large parking lots, and Toronto has already installed one at Scarborough Arena Gardens.

Instead of leaving these spaces as empty asphalt, the TTC could turn them into solar power plants that help:
