The federal government says it will achieve its climate targets in part by requiring a net zero-carbon electricity system across Canada by 2035. Unfortunately, the draft Clean Electricity Regulations (CERs) Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault has released contain dangerous loopholes that would allow gas burning to continue in Ontario long past 2035. They would also allow the construction of new gas-fired power plants, which makes no sense in the face of our growing climate crisis.
Please send Minister Guilbeault a message telling him that these counterproductive loopholes must be closed.
And please remind NDP leader Jagmeet Singh that his party needs to ensure that its support for the Trudeau government is contingent on strong climate action.
<<<< Make a difference and send a letter now to Minister Guilbeault, his parliamentary secretary Julie Dabrusin, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, NDP Climate Critic Laurel Collins and the federal Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (official comments) as well as your MP.
