Offshore wind power in the Great Lakes has huge potential. Official studies indicate that there is enough wind power at accessible sites in the lakes to meet 100% of Ontario’s electricity needs.

It has been 12 years since the McGuinty government imposed a moratorium on offshore wind development in the Great Lakes in response to political pressure. With the pressing need to electrify everything with zero carbon power, it is time to lift this moratorium and start environmentally sound development of wind projects on the Great Lakes.

Offshore wind power would cost 40% less than power from new nuclear reactors, and be available in a fraction of the time it takes to build a new reactor.

There are no good reasons to hold back offshore wind power, which is proceeding on the U.S. side of the Great Lakes. Please tell Premier Ford, Minister Stephen Lecce and your MPP that the time for offshore wind is now.
