Once again, the Ontario Clean Air Alliance (OCAA) has busted the myth that we cannot get rid of climate damaging energy sources like dirty coal and climate damaging gas.

A story in this weekend’s Globe and Mail shared the revelations we obtained through a Freedom of Information request about how the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) had suppressed key findings about the feasibility of phasing out gas-fired electricity generation – findings that showed that we CAN phase out gas AND lower emissions and rates!

If we had stopped when agencies like the IESO said “it can’t be done,” Ontario would never have succeeded in leading the world in phasing out coal. Unlike the Ford government, we take climate change seriously and are determined to make Ontario’s electricity system the envy of the world once again. We can do it by moving Ontario to a zero-carbon electricity grid by 2030.

But we need your help. We have raised $7,440 already this month – thank you to all who contributed! If we raise an additional $17,560 by April 31st, we will reach our 25th anniversary goal of $25,000. AND better yet, a generous donor has agreed to match all donations dollar for dollar up to a total of $25,000 meaning you can double your impact by donating NOW!

With the OCAA, your dollars have maximum impact. Again and again, we have proven we can get results, and those results matter more today than ever before. The Ford government loves to point to the huge pollution reductions gained by phasing out dirty coal – something that happened thanks to the relentless campaigning of the OCAA. Unfortunately, Premier Ford is planning to throw away 50% of the GHG pollution reduction benefits we achieved by phasing-out dirty coal with a massive ramp up in the use of gas-fired power plants.

We need your help to get Ontario headed in the right direction again. Please donate NOW.

Thank you for your support!
